We went into this year's Global Vodka Masters hoping for Gold.

We came away with Master.

Urban Spirit Vodka Signature has been awarded a Master medal in the Ultra Premium category at The Global Vodka Masters 2026 — the top medal awarded in the competition.

And we're still not quite sure it's sunk in.

From Silver to Master — Global Vodka Masters 2026

In 2025, the very first batch of Urban Spirit Vodka Signature was awarded Silver at The Global Vodka Masters.

For a vodka we'd created from scratch, receiving that recognition from an independent judging panel was an incredibly proud moment.

But it also left us wondering.

Could we do better?

So Pawel went back to the distillery.

Over the following year, different cane sugars were tested. Different yeasts were trialled. The process was scrutinised, refined and adjusted wherever possible.

It wasn't simply about chasing another medal.

It was about continuing to pursue the vodka we'd wanted to create from the very beginning — smooth, balanced, full of character and genuinely enjoyable to sip.

And, just as importantly, making sure we could achieve that quality consistently, batch after batch.

We wanted Gold

This year, we entered Signature again — this time in the Ultra Premium category.

There are three medal levels in The Global Vodka Masters:

Silver. Gold. Master.

After Silver in 2025, our goal seemed obvious.

Could we turn Silver into Gold?

The answer, as it turns out, was no.

We went from Silver to Master.

The Master medal is the top medal awarded in the competition and is exclusively awarded to entries scoring more than 90 points in the judging.

For our Signature Vodka to receive that recognition while competing in the Ultra Premium category means an enormous amount to us.

But then we read the tasting notes.

“Superb and very sippable”

Of all the feedback we received from the judges, those four words stopped us in our tracks:

“Superb and very sippable.”

Because that's exactly what we've been trying to make.

From the very beginning, we wanted Signature to challenge that idea of vodka being something you have to brace yourself to drink.

No harsh finish. No burn that overwhelms everything else. And preferably, no vodka face after the first sip.

The judges described Signature as creamy, vibrant and fresh, finding notes including buttercream, vanilla, ice cream soda, icing sugar and marshmallow, alongside superb texture, complexity and a long, fresh finish.

We couldn't have written tasting notes that better reflected the vodka we've been working to create.

From an Idea to Master — Ultra Premium

Urban Spirit started with two people who happened to love vodka and wondered whether they could create one of their own.

Since then there have been bottles, labels, licences, markets, orders, late nights, experiments, paperwork and more conversations about cane sugar and yeast than we ever imagined having.

There was Silver.

There was a year of asking how we could make Signature even better.

There was the hope that perhaps we'd done enough to achieve Gold.

And now there's Master.

You’ll often see the words “small batch” associated with craft spirits. But what does small batch vodka actually mean — and does it make a difference to what’s in your glass?

At Urban Spirit Vodka, small batch isn’t simply something we put on a label. It describes an approach to making vodka where quality, control and attention to detail come before sheer volume.

What does “small batch vodka” mean?

Unlike mass-produced vodka, which can be produced in enormous quantities with consistency and efficiency as the primary goals, small batch vodka is produced in more limited production runs.

There isn’t one universal number that legally defines a “small batch”. Instead, it generally describes a way of producing spirits where the distiller works with manageable quantities and can pay close attention to each individual batch.

Think of it as the difference between something being made simply to meet enormous demand and something being made with the intention of getting the details right.

For us, that distinction matters.

Why make vodka in small batches?

Vodka can appear incredibly simple. At its heart, it is a clean, clear spirit.

But creating a vodka with character, texture, smoothness and balance is anything but simple.

Working in smaller batches gives producers greater control over the process. Decisions can be made based on the spirit itself rather than simply following a production line designed to create millions of identical bottles.

It allows for a more hands-on approach and, importantly, provides an opportunity to focus on the qualities that you actually experience when you drink it.

Is small batch vodka automatically better?

No — and we think that's an important distinction.

Putting “small batch” on a bottle doesn't automatically make the vodka exceptional. Just as producing something at scale doesn't automatically make it poor quality.

Ultimately, the liquid has to prove itself.

Small batch production is simply an approach that can give a producer greater control and attention to detail. What matters is what they do with that opportunity.

At Urban Spirit Vodka, our ambition has never been to produce vodka simply because we can.

We want to produce vodka we're genuinely proud to put our name on.

Small batch. Big attention to detail.

For independent spirits producers, small batch production also means being much closer to the product.

There aren't endless layers between the people behind the brand and the vodka in the bottle. Every batch matters. Every bottle represents us.

That creates a very different mentality.

When you're producing something in smaller quantities, you aren't chasing millions of bottles coming off a production line. You're concentrating on making this batch as good as it can be.

And we believe drinkers can appreciate that difference.

What should you look for in a small batch vodka?

Don't buy a vodka purely because the words “small batch” appear on the bottle.

Look beyond the marketing.

Where is it made? Who is behind it? What does the producer tell you about how they make it? What are they trying to achieve?

And most importantly:

How does it taste?

Try it neat.

Try it over ice.

Try it in a simple vodka and tonic or your favourite cocktail.

A great vodka shouldn't need to hide.

• 60ml fresh watermelon juice
• 15ml freshly squeezed lime juice
• 15ml simple syrup, adjusted to your preferred sweetness
• Ice

Optional additions

• 15ml watermelon liqueur for an even richer fruit flavour
• Sugar or Tajín for rimming the glass
• A fresh watermelon wedge or lime wheel to garnish

How to Make the Perfect Watermelon Martini

Begin by placing your martini glass in the fridge or filling it with ice to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

To make the fresh watermelon juice, blend pieces of ripe watermelon until smooth. Strain the juice through a fine sieve to remove any pulp.

Fill a cocktail shaker generously with ice. Add the Urban Spirit Watermelon Vodka, freshly strained watermelon juice, lime juice and simple syrup.

Shake vigorously for approximately 15–20 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker feels thoroughly chilled.

Remove the ice from your martini glass and double-strain the cocktail into the chilled glass. Double-straining creates a smooth, refined finish without pieces of ice or watermelon pulp.

Complete the presentation with a fresh watermelon wedge or a thin slice of lime.

Choose a ripe watermelon

The quality of the watermelon makes a noticeable difference. Choose a ripe, seedless watermelon with deep red flesh for the sweetest flavour and most vibrant natural colour.

Always use fresh lime juice

Freshly squeezed lime juice provides a bright acidity that balances the sweetness of the watermelon and simple syrup. Bottled lime juice will not deliver the same fresh, clean flavour.

Adjust the sweetness

Watermelons naturally vary in sweetness, so taste the fresh juice before adding the simple syrup. You can reduce the amount of syrup when using particularly sweet fruit.

Chill everything

For an even more luxurious presentation, chill your glassware, watermelon juice and vodka before mixing. A beautifully cold martini tastes more refreshing and elevates the entire drinking experience.

Add a Tajín rim

For a sweet, citrusy and gently spicy contrast, run a lime wedge around the edge of the glass before dipping it into Tajín. You can cover the entire rim or apply it to one side of the glass for a more refined presentation.
